The mandate of the Bancroft Field Naturalist Club is to promote activity in and knowledge of our natural environment. We do this by having monthly nature oriented meetings, field trips, and by participating in surveys and conservation projects.

Our latest endeavour is the publication of an annual Nature Journal complete with checklists to encourage participation . Our first year, 2017, has proven successful based on demand and requests for sponsorships from local interests.

We are an affiliate member of Ontario Nature and support their mandate to protect and restore natural habitats through research, education, and conservation, connecting thousands of individuals and communities with nature.

Our Club meets on the second Monday of each month at the Bancroft Fish and Game Club at 27602 Hwy 62 south. Our meetings are from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and we usually feature a guest speaker. We do not meet July and August. We welcome new members and the general public. We also have frequent field outings.

Club members participate in several Provincially or Nationally coordinated wildlife surveys including the Nocturnal Owl Survey, Great Canadian Bird a Thon, Christmas Bird Count, and Ontario Reptile and Amphibian Atlas.

Our Club Built the Eagles Nest Hawkwatch Platform in 2001 and established Nature Trails at the Eagles Nest Park. Many new developments are taking place at the Park in 2017 due to a Canada 150 Initiative.

Since 2014 we have been sponsoring a local student to attend Ontario Nature's Youth Leadership Seminar held for 3 days every September.

The club builds bluebird houses and bat houses in partnership with The Bancroft Stewardship Council, Freymond Lumber, and TIMBR Mart.  We also  provide information on bluebird and bat habitats.  The assembled bluebird houses or do it yourself bluebird house kits and assembled bat houses are available for a nominal cost.

We formed a partnership with Hydro One in 2007.  They provided an Osprey Nest pole and platform for us.  The platform is located on South Baptiste Lake Road just west of the Redmond Bay causeway.
